Service 05 — Damp, mould & ventilation

Damp, mould
& ventilation

Finding the actual cause and fixing it — not treating the surface and waiting for it to come back.

Cutaway illustration of an R&D Group damp and mould visit: a surveyor reading an external wall with a thermal-imaging camera while a colleague logs the results, an operative fitting an extractor fan in the bathroom above, another renewing rainwater goods from a scaffold, a technician in full protective equipment remediating mould inside a sealed containment, and a supervisor explaining the plan to the resident in her living room.

In short

Damp and mould is the area where treating the symptom is most tempting and least useful. A mould wash and a coat of anti-mould paint will look fine for a few months. We survey to find the source — a roof, a gutter, a bridged cavity, a failed seal, or simply not enough ventilation — and put that right.

Investigation

Find the cause first

A proper investigation before any remediation: moisture readings, thermal imaging where it helps, and inspection of the roof, fabric and services.

Fabric

Fix what's letting water in

Roof and rainwater repairs, repointing, render repairs, cavity and DPC issues, failed seals and thresholds.

Ventilation

Fix what's keeping it in

Extract fans, trickle vents, positive input ventilation and roof-space ventilation, sized for the property rather than fitted to a standard.

Remediation

Mould treatment and reinstatement

Treatment, replastering where needed, and redecoration so the household gets the room back in usable condition.

Residents

A household, not a case number

These cases are often distressing and sometimes long-running. A named contact, clear explanation of what we found, and honest timescales.

Reporting

Evidence for your compliance file

Survey findings, works carried out, photographs and post-works checks, in a form that stands up if the case is escalated.
